Abuse with an Excuse

I searched for hope

in vain, I assumed

I didn’t think I’d find it

When I did, I checked my work

then turned to tell my fellow searchers

but I was alone

I assume they were looking

somewhere else

somewhere it isn’t

They don’t think they’ll find it

so it’s only me

weighing my plate
